We are two ladies 70 - cycled around Taiwan (1400km) and now have 4 weeks to cycle Japan with some moderate hikes and other cultural or specific spots of interests to be included. We have the entire month of this May to cycle with hybrid bikes and panniers.

We are looking for the best route that avoids torturous mountains, but we have certainly done them when needed. Any thoughts, places to cycle and go, and what to avoid? We start in Osaka and end in Tokyo. As we have hybrids, we are avoiding any trains that require us to disassemble the bikes and use bags. We love food, hot springs, and culture. We can leave our bikes for a few days to travel elsewhere or to a particular interest and collect them again... so looking forward to this but the planning is daunting. Maybe there is a company that would prepare an itinerary for self-guided.
